The Nissan Altima vs. the Toyota Camry a Super Sedan Smackdown

The Nissan Altima vs. the Toyota Camry a Super Sedan Smackdown

The Nissan Altima vs. the Toyota Camry is one of the most interesting competitions. But which sedan has what it takes to be the best?

Rivalries keep things interesting. We do it all the time with superheroes and villains. Put them up against each other to see who comes out on top. It’s the same with the rivalries between popular cars.

Superpowers Start Under the Hood

Let’s start with power. What will happen when you press on the gas pedal in the Altima? The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 188 horsepower will zip to 60 mph in eight seconds, unless you have the SR VC-Turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 236 horsepower. This will get you to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds. How does the Toyota Camry compare? The standard four-cylinder engine delivers 203 horsepower and will hit 60 mpg in 7.5 seconds. But if you have the 3.5-liter V-6 under the hood, it will get you there in 5.8 seconds. It’s a pretty close call for these two sedans.

Nissan Altima vs. Toyota Camry Technology

The technology in our vehicles is just about as important as any other features. We count on staying connected when we hit the road. For both sedans, it comes down to what trim you have, but both offer excellent connectivity. The lower Altima trims have a 7-inch touchscreen display, and you can get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with satellite radio. The Camry also starts with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where things get interesting is in the higher trims. The Altima SV with the Premium Package has a 12.3-inch touchscreen. This large screen puts everything front and center. And, to top it off, there’s a wireless charging pad. The Camry’s screen tops out at 9 inches, but you can also get the wireless charging pad. The Altima just might edge out the Camry here.

Safety Is Now Standard

Safety and driver assist technology has come a long way in recent years. You’ll get impressive safety suites in both sedans. All Camry models have Toyota’s Safety Sense group with forward collision warning, automatic braking, lane-keeping assist, and road sign recognition. All of these helpful features also come standard with the Altima, but the base trim also has a driver attention warning system, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Just a quick bump up to the Camry XLE gets you the blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, and it also has a full-speed adaptive cruise control system that will bring the Camry to a complete stop if necessary.

The Ultimate Sedan Rivalry

In a head-to-head competition between the Nissan Altima vs the Toyota Camry, it’s a tough call to see who comes out on top. The Camry has extra power and a more upscale cabin, but you’ll get some extra tech in the Altima, and more safety features come standard. Ultimately, it comes down to what you’re looking for in your next sedan.
