5 Best Mazda Vehicles to Buy Used

5 Best Mazda Vehicles to Buy Used

Mazda may not match the popularity and sales of some of its Japanese rivals, but it still makes some pretty good vehicles. It does well on the used market, too, with strong reliability and affordable prices. Probably the most appealing aspect of Mazda used cars is the Zoom Zoom philosophy. Mazda vehicles are undeniably fun to drive.

1. Mazda Miata

Mazda Miata

There’s nothing in Mazda’s lineup of used cars that is as popular, affordable, and reliable as the Miata. The beloved two-seater continues to remain popular as a new car, but some truly affordable models can be found on the used market. The Miata nameplate began in 1990 and has seen many advancements since then. However, the basic form of the Miata has stayed the same. It’s a two-seater, RWD, perfectly balanced, and with distinctive styling that sets it apart. The third generation of the Miata is one of the most popular versions. It began in 2005 and the 2010 model is considered one of the top used sports cars under $20,000.

2. Mazda CX-7

If you’re looking for something more family-oriented, then the four-door Mazda CX-7 might fit the bill. The CX-7 is a compact SUV that handles more like a car, offers a nice interior, and is one of the best compact SUVs you can buy for under $15,000. Featuring a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 244 horsepower, the CX-7 is either FWD or AWD, depending on the trim and options. It’s not a particularly roomy vehicle, nor does it impress with fuel economy, but it’s a sporty and affordable choice in the segment.

3. Mazda 3

The Mazda 3 is easily recognizable from its smiling front grille, but if you can get past this cutesy aesthetic, the Mazda 3 is an affordable, five-seat, FWD hatchback with fun driving dynamics and excellent MPG. With only 167 horsepower, the Mazda 3 isn’t exactly a sports sedan, but reviews have described it as fun to drive thanks to its strong steering response and available manual transmission. You can typically find the Mazda 3 on the used market for under $10,000.

4. Mazda CX-5

With sharp handling, plenty of power, good fuel economy, and a roomy cabin, the Mazda CX-5 is a popular choice among used cars. However, it’s useful to know that there are a lot of different trims and options out there and some might not be as worthy as others. For example, the base model only delivers 155 horsepower, but it can get 35 MPG on the highway. Higher trims come with a 2.5-liter engine that makes 184 horsepower, but the fuel economy drops to 26 MPG on the highway. The CX-5 comes in either FWD or AWD.

5. Mazda 6

Finally, there’s the Mazda 6 four-door sedan. It’s one of the most efficient and fun-to-drive cars you can get for under $20,000. Delivering up to 40 MPG on the highway and 184 horsepower, the Mazda 6 also features sharp handling and room for five passengers with space to spare. The main downside to the Mazda 6 is its confusing navigation system and a trunk that’s a bit smaller than most of its rivals. However, there’s no doubt that it’s difficult to find a used sedan with such a potent mix of efficiency and power.

When it comes to Mazda used cars, there’s plenty to choose from, but these are five of the most affordable and reliable choices.
