The Alfa Romeo lineup is expanding with the new Tonale compact luxury SUV, but could a new sports car be in the works for this iconic brand?
Although many hints exist about a potential new performance-oriented machine wearing the Alfa Romeo badge, nothing has been confirmed. It’s been ten years since we first saw the 4C, which brought this brand back to the United States. The 4C is no longer part of the market, and Alfa is working toward hybrid and electric powertrains. Maybe the new sports car could be a hybrid model which uses all of the power on tap to provide an exciting drive.

Alfa Romeo Montreal
The Montreal is absolutely stunning, bringing a ton of amazing design features to offer the visual appeal we love from this brand. This car features grilled headlights, a fake hood vent, and impressive lines. The cabin is scintillating and perfectly made for a car of its time. The Montreal features a 2.6-liter quad-camp V8 engine that produced 197 horsepower and rocketed this car to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.
Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6
The Alfetta GTV6 is one of the most incredible Alfa Romeo sports cars, but it also gave us a car that was undeniably unreliable. The engine sound and glorious drive made up for the troubles, giving many drivers a car they loved and hated at the same time. The Cup version of the GTV became a much sportier version of the car with some incredible changes. The Cup model stands over the other versions because of a sporty body kit, larger rear wing, and wheel arch cutouts. The GTV Cup is a purpose-built sports car with a lot going for it. 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA
The 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA uses a lightweight body made of aluminum panels. This quality is enhanced by the magnesium wheels and plastic side windows. If you’re looking for an Alfa that can hit 181 mph and show an incredible sprint time, this is that car. The 8C rockets to 60 mph in four seconds while delivering the ideal cockpit and amazing performance features for a fun and active drive.
Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider
The Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider was one of the few sports cars from this brand that ended up being a true disaster. Very few were sold because it was too expensive for the time. This incredible car wasn’t very good to drive either, which didn’t help. That said, it is still one of the most incredible cars to come out of this brand. The 2600 Spider is extremely attractive, and it used a 2.6-liter straight-six to produce 145 horsepower. This car has a top speed of 122 mph and can hit 60 mph in nine seconds. This car was better for a weekend drive with the top down than for some fast racing around a track.
Will Alfa Romeo bring a new sports car to the mix? This brand has been making iconic Italian performance machines for nearly a century. What’s next? If the brand goes in the expected direction, we’ll see a new high-performance hybrid or electric sports car before the new Tonale arrives in 2026. Of course, with nothing but rumors to go on, we can’t be certain of Alfa Romeo making another high-performance machine.
