What’s New on the Outside?
The external changes to the 2024 CLA may be subtle, but they add to the overall look and feel of the car. A New Powertrain Adds to Performance
The 2024 Mercedes CLA has a new 48-volt hybrid system to help the four-cylinder gas engine with acceleration. The 2.0-liter now has a starter generator that works with a 48-volt power supply that combines to generate 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. These numbers may look familiar since they haven’t changed from the 2023 model, but there’s an extra 13 horsepower at lower RPMs. This new starter/generator will capture energy when accelerating and braking and then use it to power not only the hybrid system but also the 12-volt power outlet.
A Bigger, Better Infotainment System
Inside the Mercedes CLA, the infotainment screen grew. It’s now a 10.3-inch touchscreen that runs the latest MBUX infotainment system. In front of the driver, there’s another 10.3-inch instrument cluster. One of the updates you’ll find with the new system is you get to choose how the display looks. The Class is informative with all the things you’re used to seeing. A Sporty version of the display adds a tachometer, while the Discreet setting has a minimalist feel.
The new MBUX infotainment system now works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and you’ll find five USB-C ports throughout the cabin. If you have to drive in areas that you’re not familiar with, it can be tricky, but Mercedes makes it easier with its navigation system. The augmented video superimposes the directions and even street numbers on images gathered from the front-facing camera.
Safety Is Updated Too
There are new standard safety systems for the 2024 Mercedes CLA. It now comes standard with an automated parking system that can steer the car into a parking spot. In addition to this new system, every CLA will have a surround-view camera system, forward collision mitigation, and blind-spot warning. A safe exit system will prevent passengers from opening their doors into traffic. It can sense when vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists are approaching and will keep the door closed.
