2025 Ford Explorer Gets Some Upgrades

2025 Ford Explorer Gets Some Upgrades

The Ford Explorer has been one of Ford’s most popular models ever since it replaced the Bronco II roughly three decades ago. The original truck-based SUV had four doors, which quickly made it a family-friendly vehicle and a stylish alternative to a minivan. Ford has sold more Explorers than any other SUV.

Sixth Generation Midcycle Refresh

The Ford Explorer is currently in its sixth generation, which arrived in 2020. For the 2025 model year, the Explorer is likely in the middle of the cycle and ready for a significant refresh. It still offers excellent performance, a roomy interior, and plenty of versatility, but some new changes make it even more appealing. Some updates include a restyled front end, a refreshed dashboard design, new larger displays, updated taillights, and a Google-based infotainment system.

Newly Simplified Lineup

Another aspect of the midcycle refresh is the paring down of trim levels. The 2025 Ford Explorer now only comes in four trims, including the base Active trim, the ST-Line, the Platinum, and the ST. Prices start at about $41,000 and rise to roughly $57,000 before any extra packages are added. RWD is standard on all trims, but all trims can be had with 4WD. Most trims get a 2.3-liter engine that makes 300 horsepower, while the top ST trim comes with a 3.0-liter V6 that makes 400 horsepower.

Exterior Design Updates

A fresh new look is on tap for the 2025 Ford Explorer, which is most obvious in the front of the vehicle. It’s not an extreme change from the previous model, but it features a more aggressive squared-off grille with slim LED headlights. This transforms the Explorer’s front end into something bolder than before. Fog lights are located on the outer edges of the lower fascia, which highlight the SUV’s wider stance.

Each trim has a slightly different grille design, giving each one a unique look. For example, the base trim has a black mesh grille with chrome bars, while the ST trims have a honeycomb glossy black grille. The Platinum trim features a satin chrome and black grille.

Big Interior Upgrades

Even more upgrades are in the interior of the new Ford Explorer. The dashboard is restyled with a new 13.2-inch center touchscreen display and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Ford also upgraded the materials in the cabin with softer accents and contrast stitching. The Platinum raises the bar even further with leather trim on the seats and doors. The dashboard soundbar is covered in fabric, similar to a quality home audio system. Other upgrades include new storage spots and a wireless phone charger.

Advanced Safety Tech

The new Ford Explorer debuts a lot of new tech, including a Google-based infotainment system. Meanwhile, Ford continues to roll out its advanced driver-assistance system in various models. The new Ford Explorer is the newest model to receive the BlueCruise system. All trims except the base trim come with a 90-day trial of BlueCruise and buyers can then opt for an annual subscription for $700.

Ultimately, the Ford Explorer is one of Ford’s top models, displaying a formula for success. It’s always tricky upgrading a model that’s so popular, but it looks like most of the upgrades for the 2025 model are beneficial.
