The Dodge Charger Daytona: The All-American Muscle Car Goes Electric

The Dodge Charger Daytona

Nothing says American muscle car quite like the Dodge Charger. Just the roar of the engine alone makes it clear that this car has always been about power. We all know that gas-powered Chargers are no longer going to be a fixture on the at new car dealerships, but Dodge decided to shake things up by trading in the powerful gas engine for some electric muscle.

It’s All About the Power

When we’re talking about muscle cars, it’s mostly about the power, and the new Charger EV delivers with even more power than that gas version. The entry-level version will get a 400-volt system that generates 455 horsepower, while the midrange model will get 590 horsepower. Unlike many other EVs out there, Dodge also promises a multi-speed transmission instead of a single speed. But this is just the start, both of these can also receive over-the-air bumps in horsepower through Dodge Direct Connection. The Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack will be capable of generating up to 670 horsepower.

The Charger EV Banshee

As the name suggests, the Banshee will scream down the road or around the track. It will have an 800-volt architecture, and it should arrive with two electric motors. Dodge is keeping the exact horsepower for the Banshee a secret for now, but they do promise that will be higher than that the Hellcat gas-powered Charger. So don’t be surprised when this Charger arrives with over 807 horsepower.

But What About That Muscle Car Sound?

There is nothing like the growl of a V-8 engine when it comes to performance cars. But electric motors are quiet. Other than the low murmur that EVs make at low speeds to let people know they are coming, there’s no sound coming from electric motors. Dodge is changing this with the Charger Daytona EV. These will have a form of an exhaust system designed specifically to pump out that loud growling sound that you want to hear when you take the wheel. The sounds will come from air pulses that are forced through pipes.

There’s Plenty of Range, even in a Muscle EV

Even though the Dodge Charger Daytona EV is designed for fun, it also needs to be functional, which means drivers need to be able to take it where they want to go without worrying about running out of battery power. The target for the Charger is 317 miles for both the road and the track models, which is pretty impressive for the amount of horsepower these are generating.

Versatile and Ready for the Future

The next generation of Dodge muscle is about to arrive a Dodge car dealerships. The Charger EV will be able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and run the quarter mile in under 12 seconds. All models will come with all-wheel drive, and when it first arrives, it will be offered in a two-door body style. If you prefer four-doors, don’t worry, a four-door version is coming later.
