The 5 Most Memorable Cars in History

The 5 Most Memorable Cars in History

No car will remain on the production line forever, but that doesn’t mean people will forget all of them immediately. From an antique Ford Model T to a much more modern used Mazda6, some cars linger in drivers’ memories for good reasons.

Gone From Showrooms But Not Forgotten

From the earliest days of automotive mass production, some vehicles have captured drivers’ attention while others failed to leave a lasting impression. Timing plays a role, but these vehicles also go above and beyond others to stick in people’s memories.

This article will introduce the five most memorable cars in history in their order of appearance, from the Ford Model T to the used Mazda6 sedan.

1. The Model T Was the First Family Car

Ford Model T

When Henry Ford began manufacturing automobiles, he had a grander vision than just making money. He created a car large enough to accommodate families but sufficiently affordable for the middle class. Ford did that with the Model T, the first car manufactured on an assembly line.

2. The Volkswagen Beetle Was an Enormous Hit

Volkswagen Beetle

Originally designed and engineered by Porsche, the Volkswagen Beetle was the first car to sell 20 million units worldwide. With its flat 4-cyl engine, the Beetle could reach speeds exceeding 60 mph. It wasn’t speed, performance, or luxury that made this German car so memorable but its popularity.

3.The DeLorean DMC-12 Captured American Hearts

DeLorean DMC-12

The DeLorean DMC-12 is arguably the most famous movie car in history, although many experts also describe it as one of the most overrated. Powered by a 2.8L V6, the time-traveling vehicle from Back to the Future sped from 0-60 in an unimpressive 10.5 seconds.

4. The Ferrari F40 Set Records for Speed

Ferrari F40

The Ferrari F40 was more than a cool-looking sports car. Designed by Enzo Ferrari, its 2.9L twin-turbo V8 engine allowed this beast to break the then-mythical 200mph barrier. Thanks to its powerful engine and efficient aerodynamics, the F40 recorded a top speed of 201 mph in 1987.

5. A Used Mazda6 Is Still a Perfect Family Sedan

Used Mazda6

The Volkswagen Beetle didn’t become famous by breaking records for speed or design. The reason everyone remembers it is that these cars were everywhere. A used Mazda6 is easier to come by than an old-school Beetle, and this more recent prototypical luxurious family sedan is much more comfortable and enjoyable to drive.

Some Iconic Cars Are Easier to Find Than Others

Few people will ever own a Ford Model T. Even the once-ubiquitous Volkswagen Beetle is now almost extinct. However, its more recent replacement as the best family sedan of its time, the Mazda6, is still available at some dealerships.

The most exciting question isn’t whether drivers can still buy these now-defunct yet still popular vehicles but which of today’s cars will remain in the public imagination. The only way to answer that question is to wait and see what tomorrow brings.
