Honda's First eArchitecture EV Is Set to Arrive Sooner Than Planned

Honda has just announced that it will be releasing its e:Architecture base electric vehicle throughout North America starting in 2025, impressively a year sooner than it had first planned. This release date bump-up speaks to the innovation that Honda has become well known for, especially during a time when innovation is driving and shaping the electric vehicle landscape.

What Does an e:Architecture Based EV Have To Offer?

Although Honda has become synonymous with comfort, reliability, and, undoubtedly, performance, the automaker has been one of the last to enter the electric vehicle race. Despite being late to the party, the automaker has big plans for its own electric and electronic (E&E) architecture. This architecture is set to debut on their mid to large-size EV model (the 2025 release). While you can look forward to this latest model at your local Honda dealer soon, Honda has not yet released a name for this exciting EV.

A spokesman for the company shared, “The new model coming in 2025 is the first of Honda’s new EVs that will feature our proprietary e:Architecture EV platform,” adding, “In prior announcements, we’d targeted to begin introducing e:Architecture models in 2026. So the timing has been pulled forward of prior commitments.”

Proprietary Platform Paves Way for a Bright Future

Honda’s e-architecture-based EVs will pull away from its previous assembly that relied heavily on GM to deliver its electric vehicles. Honda has long since built their EV models on GM’s Ultium architecture and EV platform. The newly established e:Architecture will set up the automaker to take more control over production and less reliability on other auto partners.

As far as competition goes, Honda’s e:Architecture-based vehicle will help propel the innovation and creativity of the automaker and can bring something new and exciting to an already growing landscape.

Software, Connectivity, OTA Updates, and More

The defining feature of the E&E architecture is the vehicle’s ability to be updated via over-the-air (OTA) protocols. This OTA protocol will tie into the automaker’s connectivity and other Digital Services that it will plan to offer drivers. A Honda spokesperson shared that these connectivity and digital services “will be an increasing part of our business moving forward, and this new model is an important part of that direction.”

This Japanese automaker is committed to investing in the future of electric vehicles in addition to their e:Architecture vehicle. Honda has announced that it will be building several plans for EV production and batteries in the U.S. These production facilities are set to be built in Ohio and will undoubtedly be the hub of Honda EV production in the U.S. The automaker also has plans to retool its existing facilities in the U.S. as well. Additionally, Honda will partner with LG Energy Solutions in a $3.5 billion venture in order to propel EV battery production in the U.S.

Bob Nelson, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., has shared, “Honda is proud of our history in Ohio, where our US manufacturing operations began more than four decades ago. Now, as we expand Honda’s partnership with Ohio, we are investing in a workforce that will create the power source for our future Honda and Acura electric vehicles.”
